Shrimp and Grits

This savory dish brings the classic flavors of Southern cuisine to your kitchen. Succulent shrimp are sautéed with smoky bacon and earthy green onions, then served over a bed of creamy, buttery grits. It’s a comforting meal that's sure to impress both family and guests.
Adjust the heat level by adding more or less of your favorite hot sauce or sprinkle on some cayenne for an extra kick. If you're short on shrimp, you can substitute them with scallops or diced chicken for a delicious variation. For a vegetarian twist, omit the shrimp and bacon, and top with roasted vegetables.
Ideal for brunch, dinner, or any special occasion, this hearty dish can be served with a side of greens for a complete meal. Pair it with a glass of iced tea or a crisp white wine to complement the rich and creamy flavors.
How to Make It
-
1
Bring the chicken broth to a boil in a saucepan. Stir in the grits and reduce heat to low. Cover and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
-
2
Remove from heat and stir in cheddar cheese, heavy cream, and 2 tablespoons of butter. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Keep warm.
-
3
In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside, leaving the bacon drippings in the skillet.
-
4
Add the green onions and garlic to the skillet. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
-
5
Add the shrimp to the skillet. Sprinkle with Cajun seasoning and cook until the shrimp are pink and cooked through, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in the lemon juice and remaining butter.
-
6
Serve the shrimp mixture over the grits. Top with crispy bacon and garnish with additional sliced green onions if desired.
